Last night I fell in love again.

It had been four years since I first laid eyes on her. And 10 years since so many others had fallen head-over-heels, just like me.

Thanks to AMC, New Year’s Day included a 10th Anniversary marathon of Breaking Bad.

It took just a few minutes of one episode to rekindle my affection for television’s most perfect show.

I can sum up the beauty of this show in one word – purpose.

Every piece of scenery. Every sliver of Albuquerque sunlight. Every purple piece of flatware on Marie Schrader’s kitchen countertop. Every cough, rant, and gesture on Walter White’s descent into darkness.

By starting with purpose, creator Vince Gilligan and his team carefully crafted a story that’s just as amusing, disturbing, addictive, and memorable now as it was 10 years ago.

Which made me realize, when it comes to planning 2018, maybe it’s time for creative professionals to stop chasing perfection. Instead let’s chase purpose.

Because when you live each moment with purpose – both professionally and personally – you create something masterful.
